How It Works
Instead of bouncing between a chat app and your workspace, On Device AI types directly onto your screen.
- On your Mac: Press your configured Trigger Key (for example, Fn + Command). A floating bar appears. Speak your mind, then release the key. Instantly, polished text is typed right into your email, Slack, or code editor.
- On your iPhone: Open the On Device AI Custom Keyboard in any app. Tap the microphone, and dictate straight into your messages.
Correction Modes
Standard dictation gives you raw, often embarrassing speech-to-text. Voice Typing uses four distinct profiles to capture exactly what you meant to say:
- Cleanup: Fixes typos, stutters ("um", "uh"), and rogue punctuationâbut keeps your exact vocabulary and tone intact. Best for quick, everyday messaging.
- Rewrite: Instantly professionalizes casual speech. Say "yeah, I can do it tomorrow, no worries," and it types "I will have this completed by tomorrow." Perfect for formal emails.
- Translate: Speak in your native language, and watch it fluently type out in another language. Great for fast communication with international teams.
- Literal: Traditional, raw speech-to-text exactly as spoken, with zero AI interference.
Dictate in Spanish? You can override your default correction profile based on the language. For example, tell the app to always apply "Translate to English" whenever it hears Spanish.
Instant Short Phrases
If you're just replying with a few words (like "Sounds good" or "I'll be right there"), Voice Typing is smart enough to skip the heavy AI rewriting phase. It types the text instantly. This "Short segment threshold" ensures quick, natural replies remain incredibly fast, while saving the deep AI analysis for longer sentences.
Provider Customization
You have total control over exactly which AI model powers your writing.
- Use lightning-fast Local Models (like Llama 3) to process your speech entirely offline, ensuring absolute privacy for sensitive documents.
